Joan
McQueen Middle School Builders Club
Joan McQueen is the sole Middle School in Alpine and the Alpine Kiwanis Club
sponsors a Builders Club at the facility. The club has been in existence for 7
years and currently has 45 members. The Kiwanis Club advisors are Leslie Woodrow
and Bob Howell; the faculty advisor is Gary Leon. The 2002-2003 officers are:
President - Elysa Benson
Vice President - Alexa Strobridge
Secretary - Vanessa Grice
Treasurer - Ryan Lindley
8th Grade Director - Lindsey Bach
7th Grade Director - Dan Elconin
Builders Club is the largest service organization for middle school
students (ages 12 to 14), with more than 35,000 members worldwide. The Builders
Club motto is "We Build" and its objectives are:
To provide opportunities for working together in service to school and community.
To develop leadership potential.
To foster the development of a strong moral character.
To encourage loyalty to school, community, and nation.
The club enjoys participating in many activities both recurring and specific
projects. Examples of their activities are collecting trash on the school's grounds,
collecting grocery receipts from the local Daniel's Market to convert to cash
for school projects, assisting the elementary school's Fall Festival, and collecting
food for gifts to the needy during the holidays.
